about
Adam Sher (born 1969) Graduated from the Vital institute of design, Tel Aviv, Israel, in the department of graphic design and illustration. While forming as an artist Sher was working in illustration, graphic and interactive design. "Adam Sher takes an activist approach to art, initiating artistic events, exhibitions, and community activities. In addition to personal projects he collaborates with groups of artists with a similar vision.
His creative process forms a circle; he documents the daily living environment and returns to it in the exhibition stage by choosing alternative spaces that are part of the everyday experience. As an artist Sher creates from a total connection to the environment. He attempts to form a dialogue between himself and the environment, and between the depicted environments to the viewers. He looks for inspiration in urban locations, documenting the micro and the macro of urban scenery. He focuses in smilingly mundane everyday objects, turning them from mere objects to icons of a consumer society. His paintings bring up questions on the relationship between human beings and the culture in which they live in. Sher uses an imagery taken from the media world, from advertisement and the culture of the masses. Whether it is ice boxes, grocery store products or Disney dolls, Sher's precise materialistic depiction of them makes the viewer examine them in a new way. He connects to the material, to the nature of the painting and not to the contextual value of their location or purpose.
